Udine Competition

The recordings for the International Competition in Composition, Udine

In 1996, the editor Vittorio Vella, proprietor of TEM – Taukay Music Editions – launched the idea of an international competition in composition to demonstrate the two facets of contemporary research: instrumental virtuosity and electro-acoustics, also frequently combined together. Thanks to Michele Biasutti’s collaboration with Vella, Interensemble has been invited from then on to perform the works of the prize-winning composers of the Competition, and then record the concert on a CD. The International Competition, Udine, is held every two years and in almost due decades has acquired world recognition that in the last editions, has seen almost 500 composers competing in the chamber music and electro-acoustic music sections.

Regarding the Competition, there have been as many as nine discographic productions carried out by Taukay. It became quite an arduous training ground for the Interensemble instrumentalists, committed to realizing the ideas in musical research of sometimes very young composers.

With the conclusion of the 2014 edition of the competition, Interensemble had performed altogether 54 new compositions, all recorded on 9 Cds for a total of 6 hours of music.

They were virtually all first ever performances, written by young, and not quite so young composers, all by now belonging to that global village that is the world of musical composition and creativity of today.
